The Black Sabbath Bench is a tribute installation honouring the legendary Birmingham metal band Black Sabbath. It sits on Broad Street, above the bridge on Canal Street — a bridge also named after the band. The bench features sculpted icons of the four founding members and has become a major attraction for metal fans from around the world. It was created from stainless steel, featuring images of all four original band members and the inscription “Geezer. Ozzy. Tony. Bill. Made in Birmingham 1968”.
The Black Sabbath bench was officially unveiled on June 26, 2019, by band members Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler. They arrived via a narrowboat on the canal to reveal the tribute. The bench was envisioned by Mohammed Osama, a Dubai-based architect and band “super-fan”, while the band portraits were drawn by Egyptian artist Tarek Abdelkawi. Gateway Steel Fabrications forged the physical steel bench structure, while Stewart Francis transformed the digital illustrations into the final metal faceplates, and Adam Marshall of Norse Forge Jewelry hand-crafted and engraved the gold crosses on the bench.
Following Ozzy Osbourne’s death on July 22, 2025, the bench became a focal point for fans paying their respects to the heavy metal legend. On the day of Ozzy’s funeral, July 30, 2025, it was completely covered in flowers, forming a towering tribute.
