The site of Metallica’s tour bus crash has been marked with a commemorative memorial stone for Cliff Burton in Dörarp, Sweden. The tragic accident occurred during the Damage, Inc. Tour on September 27, 1986, after Metallica’s show in Stockholm, as the band was en route to Copenhagen.
Burton was violently thrown through one of the bus windows, and the vehicle landed on top of him, killing him instantly.
The memorial stone was placed at the site in 2006, twenty years after his death. Since then, fans from all over the world have visited the spot, leaving guitar picks, beer cans, and other tributes to honour Cliff Burton. Not far from the memorial, you’ll also find the Cliff Burton Museum, dedicated to preserving his legacy.
