COLONEL ALEXANDER GORDON MAUSOLEUM

The mausoleum depicted on the Judas Priest “Sin After Sin” album cover is based on a photograph of the Egyptianate mausoleum built in 1910 for Colonel Alexander Gordon, located on the grounds of Putney Vale Cemetery in London. The artwork for “Sin After Sin” was done by Polish painter, photographer and cover designer Rosław Szaybo. Between 1972 and 1988 he was signed as the chief artistic director at CBS Records, and he also design the covers for “Stained Class”, “Killing Machine”, and “British Steel”.

The cemetery is on the south-east side of Kingston Road adjoining Putney Heath. The cemetery opened in 1891.
