Linköping is a midsize city in southern Sweden with about 167,000 people in the municipality, first mentioned in medieval sources in the 1100s and long known as a cathedral and education centre. The city’s landmark is Linköping Cathedral, one of Sweden’s largest Gothic churches, and the compact centre is easy to explore on foot with cafés, parks and a river-and-canal feel. Linköping is also famous for modern Sweden’s aviation and tech industry: Saab’s aerospace operations and the Swedish Air Force Museum (Flygvapenmuseum) at nearby Malmen are key local draws, and Linköping University gives the city a strong student energy. Getting in and around is straightforward via frequent trains on the Stockholm–Malmö corridor, with Norrköping’s airport a short hop away and good bus links for local trips.
