LYSEKLOSTER

Lysekloster (Lyse Abbey), known in the Middle Ages as Coenobium Vallis Lucidae in Latin, is a former monastery located by the Lysefjord at the foot of Lysehornet, 27 km south of Bergen city center in the Bjørnafjorden municipality. It’s not far from the small village of Osøyro in the same municipality.

In 1992, the Norwegian black metal band Immortal released their debut album “Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism” with cover art featuring images taken in the ruins of Lysekloster. These are also the ruins where Immortal filmed the famous amateur music video for “The Call of the Wintermoon.”
