In 2010 a statue of Dio erected in Kavarna’s central park. Dio was no stranger to the city, performing there five times and being an active part in the campaign for liberating the Bulgarian nurses held in prison in Libya for eight years. The statue, which emerges from a large rock to rise two meters into the sky, has pride of place near the center of the main park in Kavarna, Bulgaria, a city of about 12,000 on the Black Sea coast. The memorial was designed by Alexander Petrov and Krasimir Krastev-Lomski.
