Belgrade is the capital and largest city of Serbia, situated at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers, where the Pannonian Plain meets the Balkan Peninsula. According to the 2022 census, the city proper has a population of 1,197,114, with 1,298,661 in the contiguous urban area and 1,681,405 in the administrative area. Belgrade is one of the major cities of Southeast Europe and the third most populous city on the Danube River.
