On 20 August 2025, Brent Hinds, lead guitarist and vocalist of Mastodon, died at the age of 51 following a traffic collision while riding a motorcycle. The Brent Hinds Memorial Intersection marks the location of the crash, where Boulevard Drive SE meets Memorial Drive SE. Fans regularly leave flowers, notes and other small tributes at the site, most often placed near the electrical box by the empty lane close to the intersection, in remembrance of Hinds and his impact on heavy music.
