Estepona is a Costa del Sol town of around 70,000 people in Málaga province, set between Marbella and Gibraltar and known for long Blue Flag beaches, a flower-filled old town and an open-air “route of murals.” Its centre mixes whitewashed lanes, the 16th-century remains of the Castillo de San Luis and the modern Orchidarium, with a lively marina and a seafront promenade running past Playa de la Rada to sheltered Playa del Cristo; families often add Selwo Aventura just inland. Origins reach back to Phoenician and Roman settlement, while the modern town grew from a late-medieval/early-modern fortress. Getting in is easiest by road on the A-7/AP-7, with buses to Málaga and Algeciras; the nearest airports are Málaga (about 80 km) and Gibraltar (about 45 km), and there is no rail station in town.
