The Northern Irish guitarist and singer Gary Moore (1952–2011), best known for his solo career and for playing with bands such as Thin Lizzy and the Irish blues rock band Skid Row, is buried in St Margaret’s Churchyard in Rottingdean, a village on the coast near Brighton in East Sussex, England.
Moore died on 6 February 2011 of a heart attack in his sleep while on holiday in Estepona, Spain. His heart attack was brought on by a blood alcohol level of 0.38%, whereas a level of 0.40% is generally considered lethal and 0.08% is considered legally drunk. His burial was held as a private ceremony attended by family and close friends. Today, the grave is visited by fans of his work across hard rock and blues rock, closely associated with albums such as Still Got the Blues and his celebrated guitar playing.
The inscription on his tomb stone are marked with his full name, Robert William Gary Moore, and below the text “Musician – Loved beyond the stars”.
