Langhus is a residential community in Nordre Follo municipality in Akershus, Norway, with around 15,000 people. Located about 21 kilometres south of central Oslo, the area was largely farmland until Langhus station opened on the Østfold Line in 1919, making commuting to the capital practical and encouraging the first substantial residential development. Most of present-day Langhus was built from the 1970s onward, including the neighbourhoods around Vevelstadåsen and Bøleråsen, and the settlement now forms the southern end of the continuous Oslo urban area. Langhus Church, completed in 1975, is the largest church in the Follo region, while nearby forests and lakes provide extensive walking and outdoor areas. Despite its suburban character, Langhus has an important place in Norwegian metal history. The local music environment and rehearsal spaces connected with Langhus Rockeklubb helped foster several bands, most notably Mayhem, whose earliest rehearsals took place in the area during the band’s formative years in the 1980s.
