LED ZEPPELIN

Promotional photograph of the band Led Zeppelin, 1971

Led Zeppelin was formed in London in 1968 by guitarist Jimmy Page, vocalist Robert Plant, bassist/keyboardist John Paul Jones, and drummer John Bonham. The four first performed together as The New Yardbirds on 7 September 1968 at the Gladsaxe Teen Club just outside of Copenhagen, Denmark, before adopting the Led Zeppelin name shortly afterwards.

The members came from different parts of England. Jimmy Page was born in Heston, Middlesex; Robert Plant in West Bromwich, Staffordshire (and raised nearby in Halesowen); John Paul Jones (born John Baldwin) in Sidcup, Kent; and John Bonham in Redditch, Worcestershire.

Today, Robert Plant continues to base himself in the West Midlands, not far from where he grew up. Jimmy Page resides in London’s historic Tower House in Kensington, a well-known Victorian Gothic home. John Paul Jones has long been London-based, while also spending time away from the city for projects and family life.

Jimmy Page once owned the famous Boleskine House, in Loch Ness. Page owned the house between 1970–1992. Previously owned by Aleister Crowley in 1899–1913.

Only one original member has died. John Bonham (1948–1980) passed away on 25 September 1980. His grave is a frequent place of pilgrimage at St Michael’s Churchyard in Rushock, Worcestershire.
