LUDWIGSHAFEN AM RHEIN

Ludwigshafen am Rhein is a Rhine-side industrial city of about 177,000 people, officially founded in 1853 from the former Rheinschanze bridgehead and best known as the headquarters of BASF, whose visitor centre offers exhibitions and site tours. Its compact core mixes modern riverside promenades and the Rhein-Galerie with culture at the Wilhelm-Hack-Museum, fronted by Joan Miró’s vast ceramic “Miró Wall”; green escapes include Ebertpark and the Parkinsel along the water. Trams and buses run with the rnv network across the Rhine into Mannheim and Heidelberg, and long-distance links put Frankfurt Airport roughly 40–45 minutes away by train.
