ODERUS URUNGUS’ GRAVE

Oderus Urungus, real name David Murray Brockie, was a Canadian-American musician, who was the lead vocalist of the heavy metal band Gwar. On Sunday March 23, 2014, Brockie was found dead, his body sitting upright in a chair in his home, by a fellow band member. The cause of death was determined to be a heroin overdose.

Oderus Urungus has a memorial stone in Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia, USA. Visitors will find a flat stone large enough for a full-size depiction of a man near the entrance. The stone was unveiled in 2019, showing Brockie at rest wearing his Oderus armor. Brockie was cremated and his ashes were placed inside an Oderus costume and given a Viking funeral on a lake just outside of Richmond.

Hollywood Cemetery is also the burial place of two U.S. Presidents; James Monroe and John Tyler, and for Richmond’s resident vampire W.W. Pool.
