Ogrodzieniec is a small town in Silesian Voivodeship on the edge of the Kraków–Częstochowa Upland, best known as a base for visiting the dramatic castle ruins at Podzamcze, about 2 km east of town. The fortress sits on the Trail of the Eagles’ Nests, a classic route linking limestone outcrops and medieval strongholds across the Polish Jura. Around the site you’ll find family-friendly attractions including the Miniature Park and rope park, plus the reconstructed wooden fort on Birów Mountain. Getting here without a car is straightforward: take a train from Kraków to Zawiercie, then local bus no. 7 to Ogrodzieniec/Podzamcze or a short taxi hop up to the castle. In town, expect low-key eateries and small hotels, with walking and cycling paths threading out into the surrounding forests and rocky hills.
