STEVE HARRIS’ CHILDHOOD HOME

Iron Maiden‘s bassist and founder, Steve Harris, grew up at 40 Steele Road in East London. This was where his grandmother, Ada, lived and where Steve was born, in the back room, on 12 March 1956. It was a mid-terrace house on a quiet street, with a bay window on the ground floor.

Steve Harris would rehearse with his early band, Influence (later known as Gypsy’s Kiss), in the apartment during the band’s early days.

On the front wall of the building is a kind of Greco-Roman-style face, shared with the neighbouring property.
