The Baked Potato is a long-running live music club in Studio City, Los Angeles, best known as a jazz and jazz-fusion room that has operated since 1970. Founded by musician Don Randi, it is widely described as the oldest continuously operating jazz venue in Los Angeles, and it is closely associated with an intimate, stage-first setup and a simple food identity built around baked potatoes.
The venue is also notable in metal history because drummer Nick Menza (Megadeth) died after collapsing on stage while performing with the band OHM on 21 May 2016. Contemporary reporting described the incident as happening a few songs into the set; later accounts and biographical notes cite heart-related causes. Nick Menza is often regarded as the best Megadeth drummer as he was in the band in their prime with the albums Rust in Peace (1990), Countdown to Extinction (1992), Youthanasia (1994), and Cryptic Writings (1997).
