The National Museum of Norway in Oslo houses several paintings that have been used by metal bands. Among the most famous are: Johan Christian Dahl’s Winter at the Sognefjord (Vinter ved Sognefjorden), which was used by the Norwegian black metal band Windir for their album 1184.
Likferd at Sognefjorden (1853) by Adolph Tidemand and Hans Gude was used by Windir for their album Likferd.
Peter Nicolai Arbo’s The Wild Hunt of Odin (Åsgårdsreien) appears on the cover of Blood Fire Death (1988) by Bathory.
Another painting by Peter Nicolai Arbo, Nótt, was used for the album cover of Umskiptar by Burzum.
Harald Sohlberg’s Evening Glow (Natteglød) was featured on the cover of the 2001 remastered edition of Satyricon’s The Shadowthrone.”
