Tijuana is northern Mexico’s biggest city, a fast-growing border hub of about 1.81 million people (metro ~2.16 million), officially founded in 1889 and known for Avenida Revolución’s nightlife, the modern Zona Río and the landmark Tijuana Cultural Center (CECUT). Add breezy Playas de Tijuana, a food scene that helped define “Baja Med” (with local lore linking Caesar’s restaurant to the Caesar salad), and the San Ysidro Port of Entry—the Western Hemisphere’s busiest land border crossing. Flyers can also use the Cross Border Xpress pedestrian bridge directly into Tijuana International Airport from San Diego.
