Vormsund is a small river town in Nes municipality in Akershus, home to roughly 4,900 people (2023). Set where the River Vorma flows out of Lake Glomma’s system, it works as a quiet base between Oslo and Kongsvinger, with a compact centre around the station. The town is best known for its role in Norway’s industrial history: the twin-runner Nes ironworks (Nes jernverk) operated here from 1665 to 1959, and the local museum area preserves buildings, machinery and riverside heritage walks. Outdoors, you get easy fishing and paddling on the Vorma and flat riverside trails, while the wider Romerike countryside is close for cycling and short hikes. Getting in is straightforward on the Kongsvinger Line—Vormsund station has direct trains to Oslo S in under an hour—and the E16 road corridor runs nearby.
