El Real Under is an alternative music venue and nightlife space in Mexico City, Mexico. Opened in 2006, it emerged as the successor to UTA Underground and became associated with the city’s darker and more underground subcultures. Over time, it established itself as one of the better-known meeting places for goth, punk, industrial and alternative audiences in the Mexican capital.
The venue is known for a broad musical profile that extends across goth, punk, industrial, darkwave, synth-pop, EBM and related styles, while also including rock and metal events. Its identity is shaped not only by club nights and DJs, but also by live performances, themed gatherings and alternative cultural events, giving it a wider role than that of a standard bar or nightclub.
El Real Under has become a recognisable part of Mexico City’s countercultural nightlife. Its long-standing connection to alternative dress, subcultural aesthetics and non-mainstream music has made it a notable venue within the city’s underground scene rather than simply a conventional rock bar.
