ABERTILLERY

Abertillery is a small town of around 11,600 people in Blaenau Gwent, South Wales, set in the Ebbw Fach Valley and shaped by the 19th–20th century coal and iron industries. It grew rapidly during the industrial boom, then reinvented itself after the collieries closed, and today it’s best known for rugged valley scenery and strong local community culture. The town’s landmarks include the Guardian sculpture above town, the Metropole Theatre, and access to walking routes on the surrounding hills, with the Blaenavon Industrial Landscape (UNESCO) and the Brecon Beacons within easy reach for day trips. Abertillery has no rail station, but is well connected by road and bus to Ebbw Vale, Newport and Cardiff.
