Cervia is an Adriatic resort town in Emilia-Romagna in Italy with about 29,000 residents (2023), best known as “the salt town” thanks to the vast Salina di Cervia salt pans that have shaped local life for centuries. The historic centre has an unusually ordered, rectangular plan because the town was rebuilt and relocated to its present site in 1698, with key landmarks still tied to salt production, including monumental warehouses and the San Michele Tower. Beyond the old streets, Cervia’s identity is beach and pine forest: you get roughly 9 km of sandy coastline, plus long, flat cycling terrain and nature paths where flamingos and other birdlife are a real draw around the salt pans.
