ŻEBBUĠ

Żebbuġ is a historic inland town in Malta’s Western Region, with around 11,000 residents and roots among the island’s older settlements. Also known as Città Rohan, a title granted by Grand Master Emmanuel de Rohan-Polduc in 1777, it is best known for its traditional Maltese town core, the parish church of St Philip of Agira, and the De Rohan Arch, built in 1798 to mark its city status. The name Żebbuġ means “olives” in Maltese, reflecting the olive groves once associated with the area. The town is mostly residential and local in feel, but its central position makes it a useful base for reaching Mdina, Rabat, Siġġiewi and the rest of western Malta, with Valletta and the coast still within easy driving or bus distance.
