TACOMA

Tacoma is a port city in Washington, USA, with about 228,000 people, set on Puget Sound around 32 miles southwest of Seattle and 58 miles northwest of Mount Rainier National Park. Incorporated in 1884, it grew rapidly as a railway terminus, timber and shipping centre, and later became one of the key industrial cities of the Pacific Northwest. Today Tacoma is known for its waterfront, glass-art scene, historic districts and strong independent culture, with key sights including the Museum of Glass, Union Station, the Washington State History Museum, Point Defiance Park and the restored Thea Foss Waterway. The city also has a solid bar, venue and alternative-music scene spread between downtown, Hilltop, 6th Avenue and South Tacoma. Getting in and around is straightforward via I-5, Sound Transit rail and bus links, Tacoma Dome Station, the T Line light rail and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport to the north.
