Rocken is a rock and metal bar, nightclub and small live music venue in central Aalborg, Denmark. Located in the basement on Ved Stranden, just west of Jomfru Ane Gade, it opened in 2020 and focuses on rock, metal and alternative music.

The club was started by Daniel Lehmann and Andreas Nørgaard, both of whom had roots in Aalborg’s earlier rock-bar scene. Nørgaard had worked at Rock Caféen, the long-running Aalborg rock and metal bar that closed in 2017, while Lehmann had also been closely involved with the same environment.

After Rock Caféen closed, the Aalborg branch of High Voltage opened in its place but lasted only around eleven months. Nørgaard and Lehmann later organised monthly Rock Caféen nights in the old premises, keeping part of the scene together before deciding to open a permanent club of their own.

Rocken’s interior draws heavily on that local history. The walls are covered with concert posters, photographs, artwork and collages connected to Rock Caféen, Rock Nielsen and concerts in Aalborg. Some of the material was gathered from people in the local scene, while Nørgaard, who is also a visual artist and graphic designer, created parts of the artwork himself.

The result is a bar room that looks back to Aalborg’s earlier rock and metal nightlife instead of starting from a clean nightclub design. The decoration gives Rocken a strong local character, with images and references that regulars from the city’s older venues can recognise.

Rocken operates as an event club as much as a normal bar. Regular nights include rock and metal DJs, karaoke, music bingo, themed parties, live music, afterparties and special events tied to concerts elsewhere in Aalborg. The music ranges from classic rock and mainstream hard rock to thrash, death metal, hardcore, industrial and other heavier styles.

The club has worked with local venues and organisations such as 1000Fryd, Vesterbro Rockbar and Aalborg Rock & Metal. Concerts and events at Rocken have included Skinlab, Demolizer, Speedslut, Transport League, Endarken, Advocacy and other Danish and international acts.

After a period away from its original basement setting, Rocken returned to Ved Stranden in August 2026. The reopening brought the club back close to Jomfru Ane Gade while continuing the same rock and metal profile, with late-night bar culture, small concerts and afterparties gathered under one roof.
