Illyrian Saloon is a rock and metal bar on Rruga Përlat Rexhepi in Tirana, Albania. Located below street level, the bar combines a small rock-pub atmosphere with a distinctive visual theme inspired by ancient Illyrian culture and pagan traditions. Wooden interiors, historical symbols and darker lighting are mixed with more familiar saloon details, including Western-style swing doors.
Rock and metal form the core of the soundtrack, with classic rock and related styles also appearing regularly. Live music is part of the programme as well, usually with local bands performing in the compact room close to the audience. The small scale of the bar gives these shows an intimate and informal character.
The Illyrian theme runs throughout much of the interior rather than being limited to the name alone. Symbols and objects referring to the ancient peoples of the western Balkans are incorporated into the decoration alongside rock imagery and traditional pub elements. Owners Leonard and Aulona were already running the venue by 2019, with the concept built around this mixture of local history, saloon aesthetics and heavy music.
Illyrian Saloon also offers a broad selection of Albanian and imported beers, both bottled and on draught. The combination of heavy music, live performances and its unusual Illyrian-inspired interior gives the bar a distinctive place within Tirana’s alternative nightlife.
