DUNDEE

Dundee is Scotland’s fourth-largest city, with around 150,000 people, located on the north bank of the Firth of Tay on Scotland’s east coast. The settlement has medieval origins and developed into an important trading port before becoming one of Britain’s major industrial centres during the 19th century. Dundee was particularly associated with the “three Js” – jute, jam and journalism – with its enormous jute industry employing tens of thousands of workers at its peak. Much of this industrial history can be explored at Verdant Works, while the redeveloped waterfront is home to V&A Dundee and Discovery Point, where the Antarctic research ship RRS Discovery is preserved. Other notable sights include The McManus museum, Dundee Law and nearby Broughty Castle. The city also has a notable music history: the Average White Band has strong Dundee roots, The Associates were formed here, and Snow Patrol began while its founding members were students at the University of Dundee in 1993.
