headCRASH closed down in 2025.
headCRASH was an alternative music club and concert venue at Hamburger Berg 13 in Hamburg’s St. Pauli district, only a short walk from the Reeperbahn. Opened in 2007, the club became closely associated with rock, punk, hardcore, metalcore and metal, operating both as a live venue and a late-night club.
The venue occupied two floors. Concerts generally took place in the upper room, which had a capacity of around 300 people, while the lower level contained a second dance floor used primarily for club nights. Regular events covered alternative rock, nu metal, hardcore, metalcore and metal, with the two floors sometimes running different programmes at the same time. The compact concert room had no traditional photo pit, leaving the audience directly against the stage.
Heavy music formed an important part of the concert programme throughout the club’s existence. Bands appearing at headCRASH included D.R.I., Cellar Darling, Audrey Horne, Swallow the Sun, Draconian, Shores of Null, Belphegor, Batushka, Incantation and Xibalba, alongside numerous hardcore, metalcore and alternative acts. The relatively small room gave many of these concerts a close and intense club atmosphere.
In September 2024, owner Peda announced that he had decided to sell headCRASH for personal reasons after 17 years. The original operation came to an end around the turn of 2024–25, although some previously arranged concerts continued under the headCRASH name during the transition.
The premises were later taken over by new operators and reopened as BETTY in September 2025. BETTY continues to use the same two-floor location and includes rock, punk, hardcore and metal in its programme, but operates as a separate venue rather than as a continuation of headCRASH.
After 17 years on Hamburger Berg, headCRASH left behind a substantial concert history and remains closely associated with Hamburg’s alternative, hardcore and metal scene of the 2000s and 2010s.
