Columbus is the capital and largest city of Ohio, United States, with around 938,000 people. Founded in 1812 at the confluence of the Scioto and Olentangy rivers, it was deliberately created as a centrally located state capital and officially became Ohio’s permanent capital in 1816. The city later developed into an important transportation, manufacturing and commercial centre and is now home to Ohio State University, one of the largest universities in the United States. Major areas to explore include the historic brick streets of German Village, the galleries, restaurants and nightlife of the Short North, the Scioto riverfront and the Arena District, while attractions include COSI, the Columbus Museum of Art and Franklin Park Conservatory. Columbus also has a strong modern connection to heavy music. Sonic Temple Art + Music Festival is held at Historic Crew Stadium and has brought major rock and metal acts including Metallica, Slipknot, Korn and Avenged Sevenfold to the city, while Columbus itself produced death metal band Sanguisugabogg, formed in 2019.
