NATIONAL GALLERY OF ART

The National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. has a large collection of art. Some of this includes the paintings in Thomas Cole’s series “The Voyage of Life” (1840–1842), titled Childhood, Youth, Manhood, and Old Age. Two of these paintings were used as cover art by Swedish doom metal legends Candlemass: Old Age was used as the cover of their second album, “Nightfall” (1987), and Youth was used for their third album, “Ancient Dreams” (1988).
