In the centre of the Römerberg in Frankfurt, Germany, stands the Fountain of Justice (Gerechtigkeitsbrunnen). It is one the most visited landmarks in Frankfurt. In 1988 when Metallica was working on their upcoming album “… and Justice for All” they asked Stephen Gorman to do the cover artwork. Stephen Gorman was working as an illustrator in Munich at the time, had the perfect model in mind for the album: the Fountain of Justice in Frankfurt. Metallica provided further input, asking Stephen to add dollar bills on the statue’s scale, and to make the statue’s body more metallic-looking.
