Infierno Bar closed in 2024.
Infierno Bar was an underground rock and metal bar and small concert venue in São Carlos, Brazil. Located on Avenida São Carlos in the Vila Mariana neighbourhood, it was active in the early 2020s and became one of the city’s small independent spaces for heavier and more alternative music.
The venue focused on metal, punk, hardcore, grindcore, crossover and other underground styles. It had a DIY character, with local and regional bands sharing the programme with smaller touring acts from Brazil and abroad.
One of the most distinctive features of Infierno Bar was its large Venom mural, based on the goat-head artwork from the band’s “Black Metal” album from 1982. Painted in white against a black wall at the rear of the property, the mural gained wider attention in November 2023 when Venom shared a photograph of it through their official Facebook page.
Infierno Bar hosted a steady run of underground concerts and events during its short life. Cemitério and Blasthrash appeared there in 2022, while later bookings included the Argentine grind band Medium and the Czech hardcore band Rabies. The venue also hosted Desgracera Fest, with Umbral, BarbähK, Dead Jungle Sledge and Desafeto, as well as events such as Porrada Fast and Uivo Queer Fest.
The programme was broader than metal alone, with punk, crossover, post-punk, experimental music and visual art also appearing at the venue. This gave Infierno Bar a place in São Carlos’ wider underground culture, not only in its metal scene.
The bar also had an outdoor area, fitting the informal character of the premises. With its Venom mural, small stage, underground bookings and short but active run, Infierno Bar became a notable part of São Carlos’ rock and metal scene before closing in 2024.
