Erba is a small town in Lombardy’s Province of Como with around 16,000–17,000 residents, set in the Brianza area at the southern edge of the pre-Alps. It grew as a market and craft town in the Middle Ages and today is best known as a practical base between Lake Como and the hills of the Triangolo Lariano, with quick access to hiking viewpoints and quiet mountain villages above town. The centre is compact and local, while the main “big” landmark is Lariofiere, a major regional exhibition centre that hosts trade fairs and events. For sightseeing, Erba works well for day trips into Como and the lake towns, or for heading uphill towards spots like Alpe del Viceré and the ridge walks above Canzo and the Corni di Canzo area. Getting around is straightforward by train, with direct rail links toward Como/Lecco and connections on to Milan, and local roads that make it easy to combine lake scenery with countryside and mountain walks.
