At St Mary’s Church in Hambleden, a unique gravestone bearing a line of music marks the resting place of Jon Lord — the legendary composer and keyboardist best known for his work with Deep Purple.
Lord co-founded Deep Purple in 1968 and co-wrote many of their biggest hits, including Smoke on the Water and Child in Time. After a long and influential career in rock and classical music, he died in 2012 from a pulmonary embolism, following a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016.
His grave, inscribed with musical notes, stands as a quiet tribute to a man whose sound left a lasting mark on music history.
