SUNLIGHT STUDIO

Sunlight Studio is credited with creating the classic buzzsaw “Sunlight Sound” that defined Swedish death metal in the early 1990s, shaping the sound of bands like Dismember, Entombed, and Grave. Often referred to as the birthplace of Swedish death metal, Sunlight Studio was where many of the genre’s early Swedish bands recorded their albums — including Morbid, Nihilist, Therion, Necrophobic, Cemetary, At the Gates, Katatonia, and Lake of Tears.

Even international bands made the pilgrimage to Sunlight Studio, such as Darkthrone, Konkhra, Amorphis, Vader, and Old Man’s Child.

The studio is run by producer Tomas Skogsberg. Originally located in Stockholm, it was relocated in 2002 to its current rural location in Gräddö, about an hour’s drive from the capital. The studio remains in use as of 2025.
