Rethymno is a city on the north coast of Crete, Greece, situated between Heraklion and Chania. It is the capital of the Rethymno regional unit and has a population of around 35,000. The city is known for its preserved Venetian harbour, narrow old-town streets, and long sandy beach stretching eastward along the coast. Rethymno also serves as an administrative, educational, and cultural centre for the region, with tourism as a major part of its economy.
