Gjerstad is a small, forested municipality in Agder between the Sørlandet coast and Telemark’s hills, a quiet base for lakes, rivers and low-lying peaks. The centre clusters around everyday shops and a station on the Sørlandsbanen rail line; the E18 gives quick drives to Risør and Kragerø for coastal day trips, with Arendal a little farther west. Outdoor time is the draw—marked trails, canoe-friendly lakes and good year-round fishing, plus cross-country skiing in snowy spells. Local culture runs to community events and a handful of workshops and studios; Mølla Studio hosts the intimate Møllafestivalen in summer. Stays skew to cabins, small guesthouses and countryside rentals.
