Aalborg Metal Festival is an indoor metal festival held at Studenterhuset in central Aalborg, Denmark. The festival was first held in 2002 and has become one of Denmark’s long-running annual metal gatherings.

The first edition took place on 2 November 2002 and featured The Haunted, Mercenary, Raunchy, Barcode, Koldborn and Stomped. It began as a one-day event, but later expanded into a larger festival format with Danish and international bands across several days.

In recent years, Aalborg Metal Festival has again been centred on Friday and Saturday, with around 15 to 20 bands each year. The programme covers death metal, black metal, thrash metal, doom metal, heavy metal, hardcore and related styles, with a strong emphasis on both international names and Danish underground bands.

Bands that have played Aalborg Metal Festival include Sepultura, Hatebreed, At the Gates, Gojira, Arch Enemy, Opeth, The Haunted, Illdisposed, Hatesphere, Napalm Death, Deicide, Obituary, Carcass, Cattle Decapitation, Pig Destroyer, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Tribulation, Batushka, Solbrud, Panzerchrist, Dawn of Demise, Maceration, Konkhra, Afsky, Vltimas, Shining, Mercenary, Baest, Belphegor, Mnemic, Strychnos, LLNN and Bersærk.

Studenterhuset gives the festival a compact indoor setting, with concerts taking place in close rooms rather than on a large outdoor site. This has helped give Aalborg Metal Festival a strong community feel, with the audience, bands and volunteers gathered inside the same central venue.

Aalborg Metal Festival is organised in connection with Nordic Rock Booking and has long placed importance on giving smaller national and regional bands a place on the Danish metal scene. Its combination of long history, indoor format, Danish underground bands and international metal bookings has made it one of the key recurring metal festivals in Denmark.
