Backstage Bar & Billiards is a live music venue, bar and pool hall in downtown Las Vegas, Nevada. It opened in November 2012 at 601 Fremont Street in the Fremont East Entertainment District and is part of the 601 Fremont complex, next to the adjacent Fremont Country Club. The venue has five billiard tables and a capacity of about 450, giving it the feel of a compact concert room with a bar rather than a regular pub with occasional shows.
Its programme is tied to Las Vegas’ off-Strip live music circuit, with punk, rock, hardcore and metal all represented in its event history. The venue has hosted a long list of metal and heavy rock acts, including Deicide, Rotting Christ, Wednesday 13, Immolation, Burning Witches, The Iron Maidens, Vader, Kataklysm, Atheist, Obscura, Cavalera Conspiracy, Crypta, Possessed and Crowbar. Backstage Bar & Billiards has also been used for Punk Rock Bowling club shows and late-night events connected to the city’s punk festival scene.
Backstage Bar & Billiards is therefore best understood as a downtown live venue with a strong underground profile. The pool tables and bar are part of the setting, but the main draw is the concert calendar, especially when heavier punk, hardcore or metal shows are booked.
