Barba Negra is a large concert venue at Szállító utca 3 in the Csepel district of Budapest, Hungary. The name has been part of the city’s live music scene since 2011, when Barba Negra Music Club opened at Prielle Kornélia utca 4 in District XI. The original club quickly became closely associated with rock and metal and remained at that address until 2020.
A second venue, Barba Negra Track, opened in 2014 at Neumann János utca near Rákóczi Bridge, taking over the former Zöld Pardon site. Track operated as the outdoor counterpart to the indoor club, allowing Barba Negra to host larger summer concerts while the Prielle Kornélia venue continued to handle smaller indoor shows.
The current Barba Negra complex opened in Csepel in 2022, bringing the indoor and outdoor sides of the operation together at a single site. The move followed several years of planning, as the original club was regularly selling out and the two-location setup had become increasingly limiting. The new complex contains two concert spaces. Red Stage has a capacity of around 3,300 in its enclosed configuration and can accommodate up to 6,000 when opened for the summer season, while Blue Stage holds around 850. Red Stage opened in October 2022, followed by Blue Stage in February 2023.
Hard rock and metal have remained central to Barba Negra throughout its different incarnations. International bands appearing under the Barba Negra name have included Pantera, Megadeth, Machine Head, Powerwolf, Lorna Shore and Motionless In White, alongside a large number of Hungarian rock and metal acts. The 2026 programme includes Anthrax, Black Label Society, In Flames, Biohazard, Mayhem, Marduk, Amon Amarth, Kamelot, Eluveitie and Accept, underlining the venue’s continuing importance to Budapest’s metal concert calendar.
The original Barba Negra Music Club was also known for its distinctive pirate-themed interior, with murals and decorations inspired by pirate imagery and a surprisingly large stage for a venue of its size. The present Csepel complex is much larger and more functional in design, built to handle both club-sized concerts and several-thousand-capacity international shows.
