Basement is a small cultural venue and live music space at Enghavevej 42 in the Vesterbro district of Copenhagen, Denmark. Located in a courtyard beside VEGA, the venue occupies a former boiler room beneath Vesterbro Library and Culture House. Following renovations completed in 2026, Basement has a standing capacity of 230 people, increased from the previous limit of 151. The programme includes concerts, club nights, performance art, theatre, literature and exhibitions, with a strong focus on underground, experimental and emerging artists.

The space has been used for cultural events since at least the late 2000s, with theatre performances documented there in 2009. By the mid-2010s, Basement was regularly hosting concerts, dance, performance art and underground theatre, and Copenhagen Municipality gradually developed the venue further as a platform for youth culture and new artistic expression. A series of improvements during the following years upgraded the technical facilities and made the room better suited for professional concerts and other productions.

Basement retains much of the industrial character of the former boiler room. The main space covers around 300 square metres, with exposed surfaces, high ceilings and a flexible layout without permanent seating. A movable stage allows the room to be adapted for concerts, exhibitions and other events. Further upgrades completed in May 2026 increased the permitted capacity from 151 to 230. The venue is operated by Copenhagen Municipality through Byliv Vesterbro.

Heavy and underground music forms a regular part of Basement’s programme. The venue was used as one of the stages for A Colossal Weekend in 2025, while later bookings have covered post-metal, sludge, hardcore, powerviolence and experimental metal. Artists and events appearing in 2026 included Telepathy, Mt. Sarin, Astrosaur, a release show by Copenhagen metal band Gradience, K-Town Powerviolence Mafia and the multi-band All Day Hardcore Madness. Its small size and underground profile have made Basement a useful stage for emerging bands and the more experimental side of Copenhagen’s heavy music scene.
