Big Red is a rock and metal bar on Holloway Road in North London, England. Located in the London Borough of Islington, it has long been one of North London’s best-known late-night rock pubs, with a music profile built around classic rock, hard rock, punk, metal and other guitar-driven styles.
The venue has an American dive-bar atmosphere, with red lighting, booths, pool tables, jukebox culture and late opening hours. The interior is heavily decorated, and the music identity is clearly visible in the band flags hanging from the ceiling, including Motörhead, Nirvana, Guns N’ Roses, AC/DC and Metallica.
Big Red has also functioned as a live music and event bar, with DJs, parties, rock nights and occasional live performances. The bar was reported to be closing in 2019 after a long run on Holloway Road, but later reopened under the Big Red Holloway name and continues as a late-night rock bar at the same location.
