Bigoût Records is an independent record shop, record label and distro in Lyon, France. Located on Rue des Capucins, the shop specialises in underground and alternative music, with a strong focus on vinyl.
The selection covers metal, black metal, death metal, grindcore, stoner, sludge, doom, noise rock, math rock, punk, hardcore, crust, post-rock, experimental music, drone and indie rock. The catalogue is built around physical releases from independent labels, including new records, reissues and more obscure underground titles.
Bigoût began as a record label in 2007, founded by Damien Debard and Paul Martin of the Lyon noise and hardcore band Kiruna. The label was first created to release Kiruna’s self-produced EP “Social Haven of Cultural Decline”, but continued after further collaborations and gradually developed into a wider underground music project.
Before opening a permanent shop, Bigoût built much of its distribution activity through concerts and exchanges with other independent labels. Records were sold at shows in Lyon venues, helping connect the label to the city’s noise, punk, hardcore, experimental and metal scenes.
The physical shop opened on Rue des Capucins in December 2019. It gave Bigoût a permanent base for the label, distro and record stock, with a selection especially aimed at listeners looking for underground music that can be difficult to find in general record shops.
Bigoût has also promoted concerts in Lyon, working with venues such as Le Périscope, Sonic and Marché Gare. Artists connected to Bigoût-promoted shows include Big Brave, Messa, Aluk Todolo, Emma Ruth Rundle, King Woman and USA Nails.
The combination of record shop, label, distro and concert activity gives Bigoût Records a clear place in Lyon’s underground music culture, especially around vinyl, heavy guitar music, noise rock, punk, hardcore and experimental sounds.
