BURNLEY

Burnley is a Lancashire town of roughly 73,000 people, set between Manchester, Preston and the Pennine hills. It grew from a medieval market town into one of the world’s major cotton-weaving centres during the Industrial Revolution, and much of that history still shows in its mills, canals and workers’ terraces. The town is best known today for its football club, Burnley FC at Turf Moor, its industrial heritage around the Weavers’ Triangle and the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, and nearby green escapes such as Towneley Park, Pendle Hill and the Pennine countryside. A modern landmark is the Singing Ringing Tree, a wind-powered sound sculpture on the hills above town. Getting in and around is straightforward by rail, bus and road, with the M65 linking Burnley to Blackburn, Preston and the wider North West.
