CART & HORSES

Cart & Horses is a pub and restaurant in Stratford, London, best known as the birthplace of metal icons Iron Maiden. The pub has existed in Stratford since 1765, moving to its current location at Maryland Point around 1805. Iron Maiden played some of their very first shows here in the mid-1970s—their debut at Cart & Horses took place on 9 June 1976, and they would go on to perform roughly 35 gigs at the venue until 1978.

Recognising the site’s importance in Britain’s heavy metal history, the owners have transformed it into a dedicated metal pub with a strong focus on Iron Maiden. The venue also features a stage for small bands and events, and Steve Harris’s other band, British Lion, performed there several times in 2024.
