Chesterfield is a market town in Derbyshire, England, with about 104,000 people in the borough, set on the eastern edge of the Peak District between Sheffield, Derby and Nottingham. It grew as a medieval market town and later developed through coal, railways and industry, but is still best known for the crooked and twisted spire of the Church of St Mary and All Saints, the town’s landmark silhouette. The compact centre has one of England’s largest open-air markets, a Victorian Market Hall, old streets such as The Shambles, and pubs, cafés and venues around the market area. Chesterfield also works as a practical base for the Peak District and nearby sights such as Chatsworth, Hardwick Hall and Bolsover Castle. Getting in and around is straightforward via Chesterfield railway station, local buses and road links to the M1 and the wider East Midlands.
