Chișinău is the capital and largest city of Moldova, located in the centre of the country on the Bîc River, a tributary of the Dniester. It is Moldova’s main industrial and commercial hub, as well as its largest centre of transport. According to the 2014 census, the city proper had a population of 532,513, while the wider Municipality of Chișinău counted around 700,000. Nearly a third of Moldova’s population lives in the metropolitan area, making Chișinău the country’s most prosperous and dynamic locality.
