Derby is a city in Derbyshire, England, with about 260,000 people, set on the River Derwent in the East Midlands. It has Roman roots but grew especially during the Industrial Revolution, becoming one of the birthplaces of the factory system through the Silk Mill, now part of Derby Museums. Today the city is also known for engineering, railways and Rolls-Royce, alongside football at Pride Park and its position as a gateway to the Peak District. Key sights include Derby Cathedral, the Museum of Making, Pickford’s House, the Cathedral Quarter and the riverside paths through Darley Park. Getting in and around is straightforward via Derby railway station, with frequent links to Birmingham, Nottingham, Sheffield and London, plus East Midlands Airport nearby.
