DRAMMEN

Drammen is a riverside city in Buskerud, Norway, with about 106,000 people in the municipality, set where the Drammenselva meets the Drammensfjord, around 40 km southwest of Oslo. The modern city was formed in 1811 when Bragernes and Strømsø were united, but the area had already grown as an important timber, shipping and trading centre. Today Drammen is known as “Elvebyen” — the River City — with a regenerated waterfront, bridges and cultural spaces shaping much of the centre. Key sights include the Ypsilon Bridge, the river promenade, Bragernes Torg, Bragernes Church, the Papirbredden/Union Scene area, and Spiralen, a corkscrew tunnel leading up to viewpoints above the city. Getting in and around is straightforward by train, bus and road, with quick links to Oslo, Kongsberg and the wider Buskerud region.
